- The Journey -

The Path Forward Starts with
a Single Step

01 - step one  -

TAKE THE
FIRST STEP

Every meaningful journey begins with a decision. The first step is simply choosing to invest in yourself and your future. There is no expectation that you have everything figured out. Many veterans come to us seeking greater purpose, stronger relationships, more direction, or simply a community that understands their experiences.

During this phase, you can expect to be introduced to the community, learn about the resources available to you, and begin identifying the areas of your life where you want to grow.

Together, we'll help you establish a foundation for the journey ahead and create a path that aligns with your goals, values, and vision for the future.

WALK WITH OTHERS

Personal growth is rarely a journey taken alone. Once you've taken the first step, you'll begin engaging with coaches, mentors, and fellow veterans who are committed to their own growth and development. Through one-on-one coaching, peer group sessions, classes, workshops, and shared experiences, you'll gain access to a supportive community that understands both the challenges and opportunities of life after service.

This stage is where much of the work happens. You can expect meaningful conversations, honest feedback, accountability, practical tools, and opportunities to develop new skills. You'll explore topics such as purpose, leadership, communication, relationships, personal accountability, and continued service.

More importantly, you'll build connections with people who will encourage you, challenge you, and remind you that you do not have to navigate this journey alone.

03 - step three  -

LEAD WITH PURPOSE

Growth is not the end goal—it's what you do with that growth that matters. As you continue developing greater clarity, confidence, and direction, you'll begin applying what you've learned to your everyday life. You'll strengthen your relationships, improve your ability to lead yourself and others, pursue meaningful goals, and contribute to the communities around you.

Many participants discover that their desire to serve never disappeared—it simply evolved. For some, this means becoming a mentor, peer coach, volunteer, or community leader. For others, it means leading within their family, workplace, or local community. Whatever that path looks like for you, this stage is about living with greater intention and creating a positive impact that extends beyond yourself.

The mission after war is not about returning to who you were before service. It is about becoming the person you are capable of becoming because of it.

After War is a project created by Operation Allies Refuge Foundation, an organization founded by veterans who served during the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan and experienced firsthand the leadership gaps, moral weight, and lack of long-term support that followed. Built by those who were there, After War exists to restore meaning, develop leaders, and ensure veterans are not left to carry the aftermath alone.
